Discover some of the hidden cultural corners of Bogotá, as well as new Colombian artists and their works at ARTBO weekend.
The third edition of ARTBO: Fin de Semana will take place from May 17 to 19. All across the city, 67 exhibition spaces will open their doors for free during a weekend of cultural exchange and artistic celebration. In total, there are five suggested circuits through the areas of downtown, Macarena, Teusaquillo, Chapinero and San Felipe. The various galleries within these sectors are connected by a free shuttle bus, or by bikes which can be borrowed from several locations, allowing visitors to go in and out of Bogotá’s finest cultural spaces as they please.
From the well-known museums such as MAMBO – Bogotá’s Museum of Modern Art – to independent galleries, there’s something for everyone. The event is not solely limited to traditional galleries; in fact, what makes ARTBO weekend unique is the diverse range of locations involved, and the creativity of the spaces involved.

As well as the works of art, there will be a series of talks taking place, with national and international speakers discussing the important role art can play in making sense of Colombia’s recent history. An experimental installation, called Testigo de las Ruinas –Witness of the Ruins – by the group Mapa Teatro, will take place in Teatro de la Paz. The last inhabitant of the notorious Santa Inés neighbourhood, El Cartucho, will be present, reconstructing the reality of life there, before its demolition.
Whichever route you take this weekend, you are sure to finish it having learnt more about Colombian works of art, and the culture they are a part of.
