Colombia Startup 2018 is now underway having announced the final eighteen startups for their summit this November. The finalists were chosen from 300 startups that applied and will be offered the chance to present their innovative ideas before investors in the hope of scaling them to new heights.
The startups run through the gamut of services from banking and music lessons to books and prosthetics for the disabled. There also seems to be a focus on the ‘sharing’ economy, including dockless electric bicycles, cloud kitchens and the promotion of nautical tourism in Colombia.
Mónica de Greiff, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá (CCB), stated that the aims in promoting Startup Colombia are to foster innovation and promote the economic development of Bogotá. “We are sure that it has a positive impact on the business creation ecosystem of Bogotá, which we want to position as the Colombian capital of entrepreneurship,” de Greiff said in a statement released by the CCB.
In choosing the finalists, a pool of experts from Colombia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem judged the applicants on their potential and viability in the market including their business model, level of innovation, projection, investment, team and trajectory for the future, among others.
